Combining word of mouth and the Internet is just an unstoppable duo. I discovered the blog, Grey Likes Weddings, after talking to a photographer friend and it might just change my life. Really, it might! Blogs like this exist to help brides and event planners alike! Right now, when I need a bit of inspiration while planning an event or preparing for a bridal consult this is where I look for that light bulb moment. Do you have colors and ideas in your head, but don't know how to translate them to something all your vendors will understand? Email Summer of Grey Likes Weddings. In a brief email, layout your colors, season and whatever decisions you've already made. Here's what I recently requested during a dry spell. My Request: Glamorous, elegant, winter wedding with a more muted color pallet than the often used black and white.Result: A story board that was precisely what my heart was yearning for...subtle colors, but heavy in the glamour department! |
Planning for winter weddings is in full swing right now, do your best to go beyond the traditional and reach for something that speaks to your soul. It can be hard to get into the groove of thinking 'cold' and 'winter' in the hottest months of the year, but you'll be glad you did when your December or January affair arrives.

My dear friend, Anna Lawrence, married the love of her life, Evan Gundy, last Saturday. Such an occasion was talked about endlessly over the last decade. It was the perfect day and she is joining her life with her perfect man. To say the least, it was a tearful ceremony, but all other events were full of as much life as Anna and Evan are!
Here are a few shots from the weekend (all photos courtesy of Dan Russell). Isn't that the most fabulous rehearsal bouquet you've ever seen?!? Jennifer and I hanging out at the rehearsal. Programs were designed by a friend and printed at their church. You can have inexpensive programs that look like a million bucks! Wedding Party!
The love of your life finally proposed, you’ve told your family and closest friends. What next? My mind goes directly to choosing the people you want to support you along this grand journey. Do you simply pick your sister; sister, cousin and best friend; every sister, cousin and sorority sister you've ever spoken to? Do you and your fiance each have 4 sisters and 4 brothers? How do you choose?!? Here’s my rule of thumb 1. Missing Maids: Please do your best to choose prompt and reliable individuals. 2. Remember, these people will be in your pictures forever and ever: Make sure to choose attendants who have and will support you as a couple through good and bad times. 3. Don't let the size of your wedding party dwarf your guest list: For every 50 guests invited, have 1 attendant.Inviting 400 people = 7 bridesmaids, 7 groomsmen (Note: Thank you to Jannah of Quill & Varnish for letting me use one of her fabulous wedding photos. She did an excellent job of choosing the right number and quality of people for her March 2006 wedding. Photographer: Gravani Studios)
Inviting 100 people = 2 bridesmaids, 2 groomsmen
Get the picture? While this isn’t a fail proof method and every couple’s situation is different, this is a good framework to get you started. There are all kinds of tasks and honors for dear friends when you don’t have room in your bridal party. Some of them include, ushers, candle lighters, honor attendants, house party (your house party includes the girls who pass out invitations, man the gift table, the guestbook table, etc…it may be a southern term).
As you’re planning the celebration of your life with your love, remember that part of this is to honor the people in your lives who love and support you along the way. I'm sure I'll receive a lil' flack for saying this, but it's really not totally about you.
"Etiquette is the science of living. It embraces everything. It is ethics. It is honor." –Emily PostStephanie
The wedding I did on Saturday, was for one of the sweetest couples I've met. Sherry and Rick envisioned a wedding that would be sophisticated, warm and endearing, just like they are! Check out a picture from Encre Photography. More to come...
I returned from vacation a new woman; ready to hit the ground running! That also means I've had my schedule so packed I can hardly breathe. But no excuses, I know! Check out these awesome pictures from Alyssa and Ryan's wedding. Thanks Meredith and Lauren, you guys rock!
