Unexpected Winter Inspiration Board

Happy December! 

This is undoubtedly my favorite month of the year! I love spending time with my family and friends, giving gifts to people I cherish and celebrating the birth of my Savior!

I also think December is a sweet time to celebrate your new life with your significant other. If you can squeeze a wedding into the month of December (it's often very tricky scheduling venues and arranging the travel of loved ones, in addition to the expense of holiday travel), more power to you! If you live in a region with mild December weather, you could possibly have one of the most beautiful times of year to get married.

Here is an inspiration board that I've been working on for a couple of weeks now. Peach is an unexpected color for the holidays, but it makes me think of sweet champagne and celebrations! Combine the peach with white, gray and a little sparkle and you have an unstoppable combination.

Wedding Decor Recycling

As far as big league wedding blogs go, Ruffled is one of my all-time favorites. As Korie Lynn pointed out, I cited it as one of the major inspirations for the bridal shower I threw for my sis-in-law, Amanda. (I snagged those cupcake pennants from the Ruffled's DIY free downloads!)
I don't know how I missed it, but Ruffled has done it again with their latest innovation, a wedding recycling marketplace where brides can buy and sell each other's decor. Get this, the listings are free! (Isn't that a bride's favorite word?) It's like classy Craigslist exclusively for weddings. I simply love the "green" concept of re-using perfectly good items that might otherwise just be filling space in an attic. And the chance to save (or make) a buck is always welcome. So, if you're in the midst of planning your affair, hop on over to Ruffled's Recycling tab and check out what recent brides are selling that may be a lovely addition to your decor. And who knows? Chuppahs

Tonight begins the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah. In honor of the Jewish culture, I thought it would be nice to take a look at some very beautiful chuppahs. While I'm not Jewish, I absolutely appreciate the symbolism of the chuppah to a marriage and start of a family. Many couples outside the Jewish faith are using them in their ceremonies simply because of their meaning.


If you don't know much about chuppahs, as I didn't, until doing an interfaith wedding last summer, stay tuned.


I did a little research (source) and found this:
Chuppahs are comprised of a cloth covering and 4 poles or supports to symbolize the home. The open sides represents having an open home for hospitality to friends, family and guests alike. It is empty (lacking furniture) to symbolize that the base of the home is people, not possessions. The cloth covering represents God's presence over the marriage. (There are some variations to this symbolism. This is just my interpretation.)

Bride and Groom Chairs

I love when a bride and groom have chairs that have been gussied up. They're fancier than the rest of the chairs, and shouldn't it be that way on your wedding day? As the bride and groom, you probably won't be in the pretty chairs very long, but that isn't the point now is it?!?
